THE LAST FEW days have been the makings of a weekend that most Irish people will never forget.
Thousands gathered in Dublin Castle to hear the result of Ireland’s long-awaited referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment. They were there to celebrate all of the hard work that it has taken to get to this point, and how relieved they are to have full bodily autonomy for the first time in their lives.
Many of the people gathered had waited for hours before the result was announced, so naturally people got hungry. And what snack could be more suitable than an After Eight? If you don’t get it, don’t worry. It took plenty of people a little while to realise.
One woman, who had been campaigning for safe and legal abortion in Ireland since 1978 was going around Dublin Castle handing out some of the chocolates.
It began to seem like everyone at Dublin castle was tweeting about After Eights.
Even Philip Boucher-Hayes was offered one.
